Deadline: 13 January 2027 for undergraduate applicants from foreign secondary schools. Master’s rounds: 18 October and 29 November 2026.
Summary
The Émile Boutmy scholarship supports outstanding first-time applicants from outside the European Union, including eligible Nigerians, studying at Sciences Po in France.
Undergraduate awards provide either full tuition exemption or a €9,500 tuition reduction. At master’s level, the award provides a €18,500 tuition exemption in each of the two years. This is tuition support; applicants should plan separately for living costs.
Requirements
- Be a first-time Sciences Po applicant from a non-EU country, with a household that does not file taxes in the EU.
- Apply for and gain admission to an eligible undergraduate or master’s programme.
- Meet the programme’s academic and language requirements. Selection is based on merit.
Programme exclusions
- EU dual nationals, Swiss and Norwegian applicants, exchange students, PhD candidates and applicants using the French graduate admissions route are outside this award.
- One-year master’s courses, the master’s in journalism and the joint Journalism and International Affairs master’s are excluded.
- Most bachelor’s and master’s dual degrees are excluded. Named master’s exceptions include Sciences Po–Columbia journalism and specified Fudan or Peking pathways for Chinese nationals.
- Quebec applicants are eligible at bachelor’s level but excluded at master’s level.
Award duration and continuation
The undergraduate award provides either full tuition exemption or a €9,500 tuition reduction; the award amount is set at admission and may adjust with tuition fees. Undergraduate support continues during the third-year abroad and is automatically renewed for continued graduate study at Sciences Po. The master’s award provides €18,500 in tuition exemption for each of two years. Recipients lose the scholarship if they fail to validate the academic year or defer admission. Entering a dual degree directly in the third undergraduate year also ends Boutmy support.
Combining funding
The award can be combined with external funding such as Eiffel, AEFE or French government scholarships, but cannot be combined with scholarships from Sciences Po and its partners.
Application routes and decisions
- Foreign-secondary-school undergraduate applicants request the scholarship in the Financial information section of the admissions application; apply by 13 January 2027, with results in April.
- French-secondary-school applicants use the Admissions Office contact form after validating Parcoursup; their deadline is 1 April 2027.
- First-time master’s applicants request funding in Financial information and attach the applicable language test. The committees close on 18 October and 29 November 2026, with results before 20 December and 2 March respectively.
- Request funding during admission: a new request cannot be made after admission or after starting studies. Selection uses academic merit and the admissions assessment.
How to apply
Request the scholarship in the “Financial information” section of your Sciences Po admissions application before the relevant deadline. Submit a complete application and any required language test. You cannot request the scholarship after admission or once your studies have begun.
