Nexa Lighthouse is accepting applications for funding to expand proven climate and health innovations across Asia and the Pacific. The call supports solutions that help local health actors turn climate-related risk information into timely action against mosquito-borne infections, extreme heat and poor air quality.

The initiative is co-led by Grand Challenges Canada and AVPN, alongside a coalition of funding partners.

Opportunity: Nexa Lighthouse climate and health funding
Funding: Approximately US$250,000–US$2 million per innovation
Initial investment period: Up to 24 months
Implementation region: Eligible countries in Asia and the Pacific
Applicants: Eligible legally incorporated organizations or equivalent
Deadline: 17 November 2026 at 2:00 p.m. ET (7:00 p.m. UTC)

What funding is available?

The investment amount depends on the maturity of the innovation and the funding partners’ assessment. Most investments are expected to be grants, although debt or equity may be used where appropriate. The currency of an award will depend on the partner providing it.

This call supports Transition to Scale innovations: approaches that have already been tested, have evidence of effectiveness and are ready for wider implementation. Projects without sufficient, relevant proof of concept are not suitable for this call.

Funding priorities

  • Climate-informed early warning and monitoring: Tools that help health actors anticipate and respond to extreme heat, poor air quality or changes in mosquito ecology, including the spread of malaria and dengue.
  • Climate-responsive patient care: Approaches that strengthen local responses to mosquito-borne infections and the health effects of heat and air pollution.

Climate risks must shape the innovation’s design and delivery. Applicants must also demonstrate a meaningful connection to the affected communities, meeting at least the programme’s community-linked standard.

Who can apply?

Eligible organization types include companies, social enterprises, NGOs, government organizations, nonprofits and research or academic institutions. The applicant must be legally incorporated or equivalent, active and in good standing, and able to receive and administer the funding.

Individuals, sole proprietorships, unincorporated trusts and partnerships, and UN agencies and their country offices cannot apply as lead applicants. Organizations previously funded by the Lighthouse Fund are also ineligible for further investment through this call.

The project lead must be formally affiliated with the applicant organization and can appear on only one application. An organization may submit more than one proposal if each has a different project lead.

Eligible project locations

Priority implementation countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Projects in other eligible countries in Asia and the Pacific will also be considered.

Review Appendix B of the full funding guidelines for the institution and implementation country criteria before applying. Projects implemented outside the eligible countries will not be considered.

  1. Read the funding guidelines and confirm your organization, implementation location and innovation meet the criteria.
  2. Register or sign in to Grand Challenges Canada’s Fluxx portal early.
