The Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals 2027/2028 supports full-time master’s study in Sweden for experienced professionals with leadership potential. University applications are open; the separate scholarship application opens on 8 February 2027.

Organization: Swedish Institute (SI)
Location: Swedish universities, Sweden
Level: English-taught master’s programmes
Duration: One or two years
Master’s application deadline: 15 January 2027
Scholarship application period: 8–24 February 2027
Scholarship deadline: 24 February 2027, 14:59 CET
Eligible programme list and templates: To be published on 13 November 2026

What the scholarship covers

  • Full tuition fees, paid directly to the university.
  • SEK 12,000 per month for living expenses during the study period.
  • A one-time SEK 15,000 travel grant, reduced to SEK 10,000 for scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Students already living in Sweden do not receive this grant.
  • Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals and, after the scholarship, the Sweden Alumni Network.

SI does not include insurance, additional family grants or the University Admissions application fee. Check the university’s insurance arrangements. The scholarship cannot be extended or transferred to another programme.

Eligible countries

Applicants must be citizens of one of these 34 countries:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia.

You do not need to live in your country of citizenship when applying. Public sector employees in Belarus and Georgia are ineligible. If both citizenships are eligible, select one; multiple applications using dual citizenship lead to disqualification.

Study and admission requirements

Eligible fields are Governance, Public Health, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and STEM. Confirm your chosen programme against SI’s 2027/2028 list when it is published on 13 November.

You must be liable for Swedish tuition fees, pay the University Admissions application fee on time, and be admitted or conditionally admitted to an eligible programme on the first admissions announcement day. Reserve-listed programmes and late admissions do not qualify.

Work and leadership experience

Applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine must prove work experience, with no minimum number of hours. Greater experience receives priority.

Applicants from the other eligible countries need at least 3,000 hours of work experience before February 2027, accumulated across no more than three employers. Eligible experience includes employment, freelancing and entrepreneurship; you need not be currently employed.

All applicants must also demonstrate leadership through employment, entrepreneurship or civil society. There is no minimum leadership-hours requirement. SI prioritises strong, relevant leadership and work experience connected to the chosen studies.

Other eligibility restrictions

SI excludes applicants currently studying at or holding a degree from a Swedish university, those with two or more cumulative years in Sweden before the scholarship period, and previous SI scholarship recipients for studies in Sweden. Citizenship and residence-permit restrictions also apply.

Read the official criteria carefully, especially if you have dual citizenship or Swedish residence status. The call provides exceptions for Ukrainians under temporary protection in Sweden and Moldovans with Romanian dual citizenship.

Documents to prepare

  • CV using SI’s 2027/2028 template, maximum three pages.
  • Proof of work and leadership experience using SI’s template, signed and stamped as instructed.
  • Two reference letters from different referees, using SI’s template; at least one must concern work experience.
  • A copy of a valid passport or national ID showing your name, citizenship and photograph.
  • Motivation entered in the portal. Some applicants may be randomly asked for a short video presentation.

Complete the application in English. Templates become available on 13 November 2026. Follow the official PDF, signature and stamp requirements.
