Summary

The University of Göttingen accepts applications for its MSc Development Economics together with DAAD EPOS funding. Eligible Nigerian graduates can apply through the university for both admission and scholarship consideration.

EPOS supports development-focused postgraduate study in Germany. Benefits include a graduate stipend, insurance support and a travel allowance, subject to DAAD rules. Göttingen normally offers six to seven EPOS scholarships annually.

Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree with strong results and sufficient economics and quantitative coursework.
  • The programme requires at least 60 ECTS in economics-related subjects, including 30 in economic theory, agricultural or development economics, plus 12 ECTS in mathematics, statistics or additional econometrics; proportional equivalents apply to other credit systems.
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience after the bachelor’s degree and a clear development-related motivation.
  • Meet DAAD eligibility rules, including its normal six-year degree-age limit and German-residency restriction.
  • Provide accepted English-language evidence, academic records, CV, motivation letter, course descriptions and DAAD’s employment and recommendation documents.

Required documents in detail

  • Degree certificate and complete transcripts showing course titles and credits, including earlier semesters; obtain official English or German translations where necessary.
  • An English CV and motivation letter meeting the additional DAAD EPOS format requirements.
  • Accepted proof of English, official course descriptions or syllabuses and the additional DAAD scholarship documents. Include a relevant bachelor’s thesis where it helps demonstrate academic eligibility.
  • If claiming extra achievements, supply a one-to-two-page list identifying each activity, dates and workload, supervisor contact and duties, together with supporting certificates combined into a PDF.
  • Applicants from China, India, Mongolia or Vietnam should supply APS certification if available.

English-language evidence

Accepted routes include a wholly English-taught degree, qualifying English-language schooling, an eligible two-year study/work stay in an English-speaking country, or specified C1-level study. Test options include IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 95, Cambridge English Scale 180, Pearson Academic 76, UNIcert III or qualifying NULTE C1 certification. Language tests must be no more than three years old at application and evidence is due by the scholarship deadline.
